Textured Throw Pillows

I created these pillows for WeCrochet’s April IDP Showcase. The request was for throw pillows using neutral tones and my mind immediately went to cables and texture. I love the finished result and think the neutral colors really showcase the beautiful design. These pillows make a stunning pair, but they also are interesting enough to stand alone. If only I had more time, I would work up several more in different color schemes.

If you love these pillows, you can find the pattern in my Ravelry Shop now AND as a thank you for your support, the pattern is currently 50% off through Sunday, April 3rd at 11:59 PM Pacific Time. Please use the coupon code TEXTURE to access the discount.

This project can be worked up as a pillow or as a removable pillow cover with a zipper. The zipper version is my personal favorite. I think it adds a more polished finish, they make for much easier cleaning and maybe most importantly, allows for switching things up from time to time, which I love to do around my home!

If you’ve never tried cables, this could be a great place to start as I’ve also included a detailed stitch guide with lots of pictures and video tutorials that instruct the necessary techniques. Please note, these are videos of techniques, not the entire process.

Supplies:

  • Simply Wool Bulky (#5 weight); 3 balls for each pillow – or another favorite bulky weight yarn
    • I chose Wanda and Winnie
  • 6.5 mm crochet hook
  • Scissors
  • Needle to weave in yarn tails
  • Poly-fil, stuffing, pillow form, etc.
    • I used old sheets
  • Optional stitch markers
  • Optional 16 inch zipper, pins, needle and sewing thread if making a removable cover

Finished Dimensions

Each pillow measures approximately 17 inches square.
